LUCIEN brings a Michelin-pedigreed tasting menu to La Jolla
The Place
LUCIEN is a tasting-menu restaurant on the third floor of La Plaza La Jolla, run by chef Elijah Arizmendi, an alum of Per Se, Daniel, Robuchon, and l'abeille. The format is a hyper-seasonal twelve-plus course progression that frames a California-cuisine vision through French and Japanese techniques. The kitchen builds around close partnerships with regional growers and producers — Chino Farms, JR Organics, Heritage Family Farms, Sagehill Ranch Gardens, Shane Seafood, and Masami Ranch among them — so the lineup shifts with what is at peak. The room seats thirty. A wood-fired hearth anchors the open kitchen, and the design borrows from La Jolla's sea caves: dark walls, dim light, and a sense of enclosure. The evening is choreographed in two acts. Diners begin outdoors in a courtyard under a calamansi tree, then pass through a bronze door into the darker dining room for the main progression. Pricing places LUCIEN among the most ambitious new openings in San Diego. The prepaid prix-fixe runs $260 to $320, and the tasting format is the only path to the full experience. A bar program offers a more accessible point of entry, with select tasting-menu dishes and seasonal cocktails available à la carte for walk-ins.
